Bidfood Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 22, 2019 | 10:00 AM Bidfood - News

In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in line with our responsibility of raising awareness on pivotal social subjects, Bidfood UAE organized yet another breast cancer awareness talk with the help of Al Jalila Foundation and its Brest Friends initiative. Dr. Sarah Sharif, a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners (M.I.C.G.P.) specializing in women and children’s health, launched the session with a set of medical statistics, facts, and warning signs, then Breast Cancer “warrior”, ambassador and Policy and Strategy Advisor specializing in Governments and NGOs, Ghadeer Kunna, shared an inspiring story of her personal battle with the disease to offer a first-person point of view on the topic.

What sets this year apart from the previous ones, is that this time, both men and women attended the talk; more than 40 of our Bidfoodies sat all eyes and ears, including members of our Sales team, Supply Chain team, Telesales team, Marketing team, Accounts team, IT team, HoDs, and Managers. The two-hour talk was informal, which allowed for a safe-space type of environment that encouraged our team members to ask questions and voice their concerns, no holds barred.

Founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2013, Al Jalila Foundation is a global philanthropic organization dedicated to transforming lives through medical research, education, and treatment.

A partner of Al Jalila Foundation, Brest Friends is the first breast cancer support group in the UAE established in 2005 by Dr. Houriya Kazim, the UAE’s first female surgeon, where patients and survivors meet monthly to learn, share experiences and offer moral and emotional support to each other.

A very big "Thank You" to Dr. Sharif and Ms. Kunna for an enlightening, informative, and extremely important discussion!

Happy #Pinktober
